IBM Global Intellectual Propery and Technology Licensing
Claudia Woody is currently the Managing Director for IBM Global Intellectual Property and Technology Licensing. She is responsible for licensing IBM patents to companies in the Software, IT Services, Web Technology and Industrial Sectors. She also leads the licensing and joint development agreements for software and services technologies from IBM Research and other IBM sources.
Previously, she was the Vice President for Business Development for the IBM Global Industrial Sector. In this role, she connected the brand solutions from the IBM hardware, software and services divisions to the specific needs of the industries in the Industrial Sector: Chemical & Petroleum; Automotive; Aerospace & Defense; and Electronics.
Prior to that, she had an international assignment in Europe as the Managing Director for the Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks accounts worldwide. As the Managing Director, she was responsible for a $180M P&L that encompassed the integration of IBM brand offerings and research to provide global solutions for the client. During this assignment, she was based in Finland where she functioned as the IBM senior executive and single point of contact for both Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks.
Claudia has been with IBM 14 years and has had multiple global roles including: Integrated Technology Services Business Development, Intellectual Property & Technology Commercialization, Learning Services and Global Application Delivery. She has functioned as a Red Team member for high-risk and high visibility accounts including the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She received the coveted IBM Chairman’s Award for her work on the Global Y2K team. She also has two IBM patents pending.
Prior to joining IBM in 1996, Claudia was hired by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games as the Technology Program Director for the Olympic Results System to help bridge the gap between technology and sport. She managed the development, systems integration and operations of IBM, Swatch Timing, Xerox print distribution and Scientific Atlanta Video Data System for the 37 sports in the 20 venues of the 1996 Olympic Games.
As a telecommunications executive from 1991 to 1995, Claudia was the Vice President of Business Development for CenturyTel (NYSE:CTL) where she directed mergers, acquisitions, startups and strategic planning. She also served as the VP, General Manager and COO of one of the start up companies.
From 1988 to 1991, Claudia was the Assistant Dean of the College & Graduate School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin where she managed corporate relations, external communications, marketing, development and the placement office. She assisted with the start up of the Austin Technology Incubator, the Moot Corp International competition and the PhD in business degree program at Monterrey Tech (ITESM) in Mexico.
Earlier in her career, she served as the Assistant Athletics Director at two major universities: the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. At Texas, she ran over 30 national and international championships including the 1985 and 1987 NCAA Women’s Final Fours. Claudia coached a 1979 USA National Team in women’s basketball, and was an assistant coach for two years under Pat Head Summitt at The University of Tennessee.
Claudia holds a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Georgia State University, an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.S. from the University of Tennessee. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Mary Baldwin College where she earned her B. A. summa cum laude, and was recently inducted into the 2010 class of the MBC Athletics Hall of Fame.. She has completed Ph.D. course work in Organizational Development and is admitted to practice law by the State Bar of Georgia.
